Public consultation has commenced for a 156-key Banyan Tree hotel to be developed in the Wadano neighbourhood of Hakuba, one of Japan's premier resort destinations. The hotel is due to commence construction in early 2025 and open its doors in 2028.
The property is being developed by companies connected to Tokyo-based real estate investment firm Wealth Management. The official name of the property is yet to be disclosed, however, a formal announcement is expected over the coming months. The project will be a major boon for the local economy and real estate market, particularly in the Wadano and Happo area of Hakuba.
This highly anticipated, full-service 5-star property will have 108 hotel suites and 48 condominiums, and is the first large-scale, luxury hotel property to be built in the area for some time. The property will have full ski-in/ski-out access to the Happo-one ski resort, which is widely considered to be one of the Nagano area’s top resorts.
Two other major condominium developments are also in various stages of planning and construction in the Echoland area of Hakuba. The first of the two projects to be delivered is being developed by Yokohama-based developer, List. That project commenced construction earlier this year and is due to complete in late 2024.
With numerous major projects in the pipeline, the Hakuba market is forecast to see continued growth in capital values over the coming years.
